For many EDS types, genetic testing can help confirm a diagnosis. Hypermobile EDS is different: there is currently no established laboratory or genetic test that confirms hEDS. Clinicians use history, examination, diagnostic criteria and assessment for alternative explanations. The international EDS and HSD diagnostic framework is being updated, with new criteria scheduled for publication on 1 December 2026. This page will be reviewed when the new peer-reviewed framework is published.
